John Stass

Artist Statement
I pursue my art as a fundamental exploration of space, color and light.  My mission is to capture the emotional tension that exists between the simple and the profound.  That point of discovery occurs most often during those fleeting moments of "wonder" that we all witness... but seldom see repeated.

Coming out of the corporate world of L. L. Bean in his earlier days, John Stass has been a creatively driven entrepreneur for 3 decades.  In his former career as a management consultant, John counted some of the nation’s most highly regarded organizations as clients.
At the mid-point of his working life, over a period of nearly 20 years, John was a designer of exclusive furniture and with the assistance of several very capable artisan grade builders, he created and produced the brands of Katahdin Studio Furniture, Zen Harbor Living and Katahdin Home.  John's work sold world-wide, often to a celebrity clientele, including Melissa Etheridge, Andy Griffith, and to the sets of both the Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien shows.

Today, John Stass is once again an independent artist and designer based in Lewiston, Maine.  His artwork is created primarily with acrylics and occasionally in watercolor.  John's sculptural work takes the form of wall reliefs and smaller scale free standing pieces from select hardwoods.
