David Estey is an improvisational painter and Maine native in Belfast, with a BFA degree in painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 1964, a MFA degree in public administration from George Washington University in 1976, extensive study at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and a year in Rome, Italy.
In addition to a 31-year federal career in public affairs, he taught, exhibited and sold his art in the Mid-Atlantic States, North Carolina and Maine. He has produced over 100 sketchbooks, 1,000 paintings 10,000 drawings and a total of over 10,700 pieces of art. He has had 22 solo exhibits, (including a 65-Year Retrospective at Studio 53 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, in 2016). He also has been in over 80 group and juried shows, earned 13 first-place awards, and been the subject of over 100 articles and interviews. His work is in many corporate, institutional and private collections in 20 states and seven countries.
